Vickie Blackman Creech, 66, passed away Friday, Nov. 23, 2018, at the Brian Center.
The family will receive friends Monday, Nov. 26, 2018, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro.
Vickie was born in Wayne County Nov. 19, 1952, to the late Victor and Lois Cole Blackman of the Grantham community.
She is survived by one daughter, Tori Creech; one sister, Barbara Blackman; two grandchildren, Haleigh Creech-Coronado and Isabella Coronado; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Carla Brook Creech.
A special thank you is extended to the 300 hall of the Brian Center, Bonnie Price and Connie Bennett for all their care and compassion given.

Edith Bailey Ross, 69, 307 Bertie Pierce Road, Pikeville, died Thanksgiving Day at her home.
Funeral service will be held Sunday at 3 p.m., Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, U.S. 70 West, of Goldsboro. The Rev. Bill Cotton and the Rev. Larry Turlington will officiate.
Surviving are sons, Jerry Wayne Narron Jr. (Melanie) of Pikeville, Clee Ross Jr. (Chrystal) of Goldsboro and Scott Ross (Mariah) of Selma; three daughters, Lisa Raynor Doudney (David) of Pikeville, Wendy Narron Fields (David) of Goldsboro and Kimberly Ross Raper (Jerry) of Pikeville; her mother, Rhoda Iona Parnell Bailey of Seven Springs; brother, Jesse Bailey of Pikeville; sister, Paulette Kornegay of Seven Springs; 23 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clee Alfred Ross; her father, Clifton Bailey; a brother, Charles Bailey; a sister, Peggy Langston; and great-granddaughter, Logan Ann Murray.

Joanne M. O’Connell
March 4, 1949- Nov. 22, 2018
Joanne Marie O’Connell, 69, Goldsboro and Aventura, Fla., passed away suddenly Thursday at Wayne UNC Health Care.
She was the daughter of the late John and Josephine Hutchinson, and was the wife of Tom O’Connell.
Mrs. O’Connell had attended First Assembly of God.
She was instrumental in starting regular Multiple Sclerosis dinners at Logan’s, and was very active in the MS Society in Goldsboro, Raleigh and Aventura, Fla.
She was owner and operator of Porky’s Pub in New York for 30 years.
She loved her family and traveling with Tom seeing the world.
She lit up every room that she walked in with her smile, and made everyone feel special and loved.
No formal services will be held.
In addition to her husband, Tom, she is survived by her children, Bobby Schellhorn and wife, Alice, of Clermont, Fla., Lori O’Connell of Kathleen, Ga., Paulette Dinulos and husband, James, of Portsmouth, N.H., Tommy O’Connell Jr. and wife, Lisa, of Bohemia, N.Y., and James O’Connell and wife, Jackie, of Oakdale, N.Y.; two sisters, Janet Clayton (twin) of Goldsboro and Joyce Price and husband, Tony, of Evans, Ga.; and a special sister-in-law, Pat O’Connell of Goldsboro.
She is also mourned by her best friend in life, Peggy Todarello of Oakdale, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made in her name to the American Cancer Society, P.O., Box 22478, Oklahoma City, Okla., 73123.

Irvin “Irv” Otis Loock, 80, Goldsboro, N.C., died suddenly Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2018, at his winter home in Walnut Creek. Irv was a resident of Cleveland, N.Y..
Irv was born in Amery, Wis., April 29, 1938, to the late Irvin Martin Loock and Serena Kobs Loock.
He was a retired senior central New York sales representative for Andersen Windows for more than 40 years.
An avid outdoorsman, Irv was a member of Ducks Unlimited and German Gun Collectors Association.
Irv proudly served his country in the United States Navy.
Irv had a wonderful sense of humor, and never took himself too seriously.
He was a good friend, a great husband and father and had a generous heart.
Irv loved fishing, hunting, woodworking and his dogs, German Shorthaired Pointers.
Most important to Irv was his family. Irv worked so hard to make sure his wife and children were well taken care of. Irv adored his wife, and his daughter had
him wrapped around her finger. He will be missed, but greatly remembered.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2018, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a service to celebrate Irv’s life at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Andy Stovall presiding. Irv will also be remembered in the spring at a memorial service in New York.
Irv is survived by his wife of 55 years, Valerie Loock; children, Lance Loock and Sandra Loock (Zollie Kornegay); and grandson, William Julias Loock.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jean Brown, and his best friend and brother, Elwood Engelbrekt.

Phyllis B. Kearns
Died Nov. 20, 2018
Mrs. Phyllis Borders Kearns, 86, Beautancus Road, Mount Olive, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 20, 2018, at Brookdale Country Day Road, Goldsboro.
Born in Pueblo, Colo., as a young lady, she met her husband-to-be, Merle Kearns, a military man, while he was stationed in Wyoming.
After their marriage, his military career took them to various assignments, one of those being Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro.
After retirement, they relocated to the Mount Olive area, where they managed the Southern Belle Motel in Mount Olive.
Later on, she would be employed with Barwick and Blackwelder Insurance Agency, also in Mount Olive.
She was a member of Salem Advent Christian Church, and had been in its choir.
Mrs. Kearns was preceded in death by her husband, Merle E. “Sarge” Kearns; her parents, Walter Borders and Grace Smith Borders Goodknight; and
a brother, Walter Borders.
She is survived by three sons, William Russell “Rusty” Kearns and wife, Susan Katrina Kearns, of Houston, Texas, Lawrence Allen “Larry” Kearns of Mount Olive and David Allison Kearns and wife, Janet Kearns, of the Rosewood area
of Goldsboro; five grandchildren, Melissa Kearns of Houston, Texas, Christopher Kearns of Pearland, Texas, Kyle Grey and wife, Kathryn, of Wake Forest, Kasey Sander and husband, Mike, of Pikeville and Daniel “Boone” Moody of Rosewood; and seven great-grandchildren, L.J., Laela and Levyn Walker, Leanna Marie Kearns, Elle Kearns, Felicity Grace Kearns and Thompson Por ter Grey.
Funeral services will be Monday, Nov. 26, at 11 a.m. from Tyndall Funeral Home, with burial following in Wayne Memorial Park.

Diane passed away in the early morning hours, peacefully at the home of her mother, Margaret Kidd of Dudley.
She was preceded in death by her father, Thurman Kidd Sr.; brother, Thurman Jr.; sister, Lillian; nephew, Hank Kidd; and brother-in-law, Bobby “Bob Cat” Smith.
Along with her mother, she is survived by her husband, Gary Ginn; brothers, Walter, Henry, Ricky, Dennis and Jeff; sisters, Ann, Pat, Gale and Delilah; godchild, Caitlin Smith; sister-in-law, Elaine Pounds; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 26, at 2 p.m., with apostle James Jones officiating, at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home chapel. Burial will follow at Oakview Cemetery in Mount Olive.
The family will visit with family and friends at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Myrna Joyce Sandy Kimmel, 75, died Wednesday at Wayne UNC Health Care.

Born in Lima, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Wilson J. and Rowena F. Sandy, and wife of the late Roger Lynn Kimmel.
