Rosewood swimming took 13 swimmers to the Eastern Carolina 1A/2A Regionals last weekend at the Triangle Aquatics Center in Cary.
The women’s team had qualifiers Kaley Hilton, Kaitlyn Aghajanian, Lana Nuwara, Hannah Rhodes, Allecia Langdon, and Madalyn Craig, in the 200 Medley relay, the 200 freestyle relay, and the 400 freestyle relay.
For the men’s team Jack Lyon had regional qualifying times in the 200 IM and the 100 butterfly and swam a 59.18 in the 100 fly to score a third place medal and a spot at the state meet on Feb. 9.
The men’s 200 freestyle relay and the 200 medley relay featuring Damon Merritt, Cameron Daniels, Nathan Rigdon and Jack Lyon also swam at regionals and the 200 free relay qualified for the state meet coming in seventh with a time of 1:38.79.
Other regional qualifiers from the men’s team include Cameron Daniels (200 freestyle and 500 freestyle), Damon Merritt (100 freestyle), Nathan Rigdon (100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke, Tyler Jordan (100 butterfly); as well as the 400 relay team of Tyler Jordan, Logan Power, Jonah Clark and Damon Merritt.
Rosewood High School swimming scored 77 team points and they were the only 1A non-charter school to place in the top 10. The team is also the season’s Carolina 1A Conference champions and Wayne County champions.
