On Tuesday night, Laine Marak and Cassandra Lassiter each hit two home runs as the Wayne County Post 11 legion softball team swept Hoke County Post 20 to improve to 6-2 in league play and 7-3 overall. In game one, Post 11 won 16-0 in a three-inning mercy rule game. The Post11 offense exploded for 16 run and 10 hits in the first inning. Post 11’s offense was lead by Cassandra Lassiter with two home runs (both hit in the first inning), Megan Bryant went 2-3 with two doubles, Hannah Burres was 2-3 with a double and a triple and Gracelyn Massey hit a double. Taylor Jones and Amber Pfennig finished 2-2 and Mackenzie Bryan was 1-2 from the plate. Taylor Jones pitched two innings, gave up one hit and struck out two for the win. Summer Nelsen pitched a scoreless third inning striking out the side. In game two, Post 11 shutout Hoke County 9-0. Post 11 scored three runs in the first, second, and third innings to get the four-inning victory. Gracelyn Massey pitched three innings of two-hit softball and tossed three strikeouts. Mackenzie Bryan pitched a scoreless fourth inning. Laine Marak 3-3 with two home runs, Marak’s 5th of the season, to lead the Post 11 attack. Cana Shrock was 2-2 with a double, Alyssa Smothers was also 2-2 with two doubles and Hannah Burress was 1-2 with a double. Post 11 next travels to Clayton for a big conference matchup with Johnston County Thursday evening. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
