Searls medals, Rosewood golf wins triangular match
Rosewood played a conference match on Monday at the Goldsboro golf course. Rosewood finished in first place with a score of 348. Princeton was in second with 352 and Hobbton placed third with 380. Wyatt Searls was the medalist with a score of 78. Will Hinson, Alex Harper, and Tyson Bedford all shot 90, while Colby Hooks shot a 94. The Eagles next play again on Monday at Timberlake. So far this season Rosewood has two first-place finishes and two second-place finishes.
More prep golf
In a nonconference match played at Wedgewood CC in Wilson. Wayne Christian’s Darden Bynum shot 45 and Blake Easom shot 46. Other teams involved were Community Christian, Lee Christian, Crossroads Academy and Northwood Temple.
C.B. Aycock 15, J.H. Rose 2 (Wednesday)
Makayla Williams hit a double had six RBIs as the Golden Falcons dominated J.H. Rose. Shawna Williams got the win on the mound, while Abbey Thomas was 3-3 from the plate with a double, two RBIs and three stolen bases. Abigail Lancaster was 2-3. C.B. Aycock is 8-6 overall and 5-3 in conference play.
Rosewood 8, Princeton 4 (Wednesday)
Rosewood dispatched archrival Princeton 8-4 on Wednesday. Tanner Capps was 2-3 from the plate with two RBIs and two doubles, while Logan Price finished 2-4 with an RBI and a triple. Will Albert, Logan Merritt, Carson Hatem each had one RBI. Merritt pitched three and one-third innings, gave up four hits, two runs and threw two strikeouts. Price pitched two innings, gave one hit, zero runs and tossed four strikeouts. Patrick Jones struck out two batters in one inning of work. Princeton was led by Dayde Farrell, who was 2-2 from the plate with an RBI. Farrell also pitched two innings, giving up two runs and throwing one strikeout. Jacob Edens and Logan Rachels each had one RBI apiece. In four innings on the mound, Tyler Thompson gave up four hits, six runs (three earned) and threw two strikeouts.
Southern Wayne 6,South Central 3 (Wednesday)
The Saints got their second win of the season with a win against South Central. Drew Cox, Luke Davis, Hunter Strickland and Matthew Kornegay all had one RBI, while Will Pennington got the win on the mound. Pennington pitched six innings and gave up three runs. Josh Wall threw two strikeouts in one inning of relief.
New Bern 4, Eastern Wayne 0 (Wednesday)
Ryan Sullivan was 1-2 from the plate, but Eastern Wayne was shutout 4-0 against New Bern. Sullivan also pitched six innings and struck out three Bears.
Ayden-Grifton 7, C.B. Aycock 2 (Wednesday)
Carson Gipson and Blake Dilda each had an RBI, but the Golden Falcons dropped a game against Ayden-Grifton.
Prep track and field
On Wednesday, Charles B Aycock High School competed in a 3A/4A ECC Conference Track meet hosted by New Bern High School. Eastern Wayne came in first place, D.H. Conley was in second place, New Bern came in third and C.B. Aycock finished fourth. For the Lady Golden Falcons, Dasani Jackson placed third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.31.
