Wayne Country topples Wayne Christian

On Tuesday, The Chargers scored five runs in the first inning to take an early lead, but Wayne Christian scored four runs in the top of the fourth to make it a 5-4 game. Wayne Country Day then went on to score two runs in the bottom of the fourth and seventh innings to win the game 9-4. For Wayne Country Day, Case Kermode, Avery Browning and Cairns Edmondson all had two RBIs., while Aaron Ward and Caleb Brewer each finished with one RBI. Tanner Williman got the win on the mound, he pitched three and two-thirds innings, gave two hits, three runs (three earned), and struck out seven Eagles. In two and two-thirds innings of relief, Kermode gave up no runs, no hits, and also threw seven strikeouts. Wayne Christian was led by Addison Johnson, who hit a home run and had all four of the Eagles’ RBIs. He also pitched four innings, giving up four hits six runs (five earned) and throwing five strikeouts. Dawton King and Will White both had one hit in the game. In three innings of work, Jaxon Bauer gave up three runs (zero earned), four hits and tossed five strikeouts. Wayne Country is now 8-6 overall and travels to Rocky Mount Academy tonight. Wayne Christian dropped to 6-3 overall and next hosts Harrells Christian Academy tonight.

J.H. Rose 7, Eastern Wayne 2 (Tuesday)

J.H. Rose used a seven-run first inning to topple Eastern Wayne. Eastern Wayne was led by Wesley Case, who was 2-3 from the plate with a home run and two RBIs. Braeden Collins, Daniel Weeks, Drew Barnes and Andre Fricks all had one hit in the game.

D.H. Conley 3, Southern Wayne 0 (Tuesday)

Dylan Whitley had the Saints’ lone hit in their loss against D.H. Conley. Luke Davis ptiched four innings, gave three runs and five hits. In two innings of relief, Josh Wall threw two strikeouts, and gave up zero hits and zero runs. Southern Wayne (3-14 overall, 2-9 ECC 3-A/4-A) travels to Eastern Wayne tonight. First pitch is 6 p.m.

Wallace-Rose Hill 7, Spring Creek 0 (Tuesday)

Landon Smothers, Cole Honeycutt and Mark Aviles all had one hit, but the Gators were shutout against Wallace-Rose Hill. Starter Campbell Cunningham pitched four innings, tossed six strikeouts, three hits and three runs (two earned). Smothers pitched one inning, giving up one run and throwing one strikeout.

Princeton 4, James Kenan 0 (Tuesday)

Princeton snapped its seven-game losing streak with a win against James Kenan. Logan Rachels led the Bulldogs offense by going 1-3 with a double and two RBIs. Trace Hickman went 2-4 with a double and an RBI. Daniel Garcia also had an RBI, while Will Gurganious pitched a complete game. He gave four hits, zero runs and struck out 10 Tigers.

Prep golf

Wayne Christian School varsity boys’ golf team played a conference match against Friendship Christian School at Hedingham Country Club in Raleigh on Tuesday. The Eagles shot a team score of 143, while Friendship Christian finished with an overall score of 165. Blake Easom was a medalist with a score of 41. Darden Bynum shot a 44, Adam Grady finished with a 58 and Ben Nasseff had a score of 61. Dailyn Lilly, Jason Mirus, and Jacob Kirby also participated in the match for Wayne Christian.
