Weeks and Rice each have three-RBI night

Daniel Weeks batted 1-for-1 with a double and three RBIs, while Sam Rice finished 2-4 with a double and three RBIs as Eastern Wayne upended Goldsboro, 13-3, in five innings on Monday evening. Josh Gross had two RBIs, Colby Miller hit a double. Drew Barnes, Will Uzzell and Ryan Sullivan all had one RBI. Sullivan emerged as the winning the pitcher.

The senior allowed three runs (three earned) and retired seven Goldsboro batters five innings. After losing three games in a row, Eastern Wayne has now won their past games and is 9-6 overall. Goldsboro has now lost three games in a row to drop to 6-8 overall.

Spring Creek 4, James Kenan 0 (Monday)

Jordan Ammons threw a one hit shutout with two walks and seven strikeouts as the Gators toppled James Kenan.

The Gators defense committed zero errors, while Ammons had two hits.

Landon smothers, Campbell Cunningham, Andrew crumpler, Robert Strickland and Douglas Davidson all had hits in the game. Spring Creek is now 3-8 overall and is 3-4 in East Central 2-A Conference play.

Faith Christian 6, Bethel Christian 3 (Monday)

Faith Christian (6-3 overall, 4-2) won its sixth game of the year with a victory against Bethel Christian.

Cal Reese finished 2-2 from the plate with two RBIs and a double. Reese also got the win on the mound.

He pitched two innings, threw three strikeouts and gave up one run. Cooper Voeller got save by pitching three and one-third innings, he also tossed three strikeouts. Daniel Thompson, Jackson Freeman, and Garrett Pendergraft all finished the game with one RBI.

Prep boys’ tennis

C.B. Aycock 3, D.H. Conley 3 (Monday)

In a meet that saw five of the six matches go into a third set, C.B. Aycock tied D.H. Conley 3-3.

James Rodriguez lost to Sean Jung 5-6, 1-6, 6-10. Jonas Creel dropped his match 5-7, 4-6.

In the number three singles match, Nolan Casey defeated D.H. Conley’s Jackson Sherill 6-0, 4-6, 10-3.

Sam McKinney emerged victorious 6-0, 4-6, 10-6. Payne Casey won his match 4-6, 6-3, 10-6, while Keenan Smith lost 6-6 (5-7), 7-5, 10-6.

Middle school girls’ soccer

Grantham 4, Rosewood 0

Melany Loa scored two goals as Grantham shutout Rosewood. Paige Reeves and Kayla Santos both scored one goal. Grantham improved its record to 3-3 overall.
