Rosewood wrestlers rally, capture Heide Trask Titans Duals

The Rosewood Eagles wrestling team traveled to Heide Trask High School on Saturday to participate in the Titan Duals. The Eagles went 4-0 in their initial pool, defeating Hoggard 60-24, Dixon 44-36, Pender 42-36, and Topsail 42-36. This set up the championship match with South Brunswick. The Cougars pulled out to an early lead before Rosewood battled back, winning some nail-biting bouts, to clinch the championship, 37-36.

Several Rosewood wrestlers had a perfect slate on the day including TJ Ruffino, Christian Decatur, Timothy Decatur, Jordan Todd, and Nyterrius Williams.

“I could not be any prouder of the effort our team showed on Saturday. One of my jobs as coach is to try to put our team in the best possible position to win the dual. This meant that many of our kids had to wrestle up a weight class. Without complaining, they got the job done. There were some great matches, but probably none more entertaining than Logan Tortual and Gael Jaramillo in the championship match versus South Brunswick,” said Rosewood head coach Hal Kilpatrick. “Both kids rose to the occasion to help us claim the title. The enthusiasm that our whole team showed during the day was particularly gratifying.”

Up next for the Eagles is a trip to North Pitt on Tuesday and then they travel to the 47th Annual WRAL Invitational at Athens Drive High School on Friday and Saturday.
