Golden Falcons compete in conference dual

Charles B. Aycock wrestlers went 1-1 at the last conference dual held at Southern Wayne. Aycock lost 58-18 to New Bern before rebounding and defeating Eastern Wayne 57-24. Four grapplers had a 2-0 sheet: Torrence Franklin, who is now 30-9 on the season and Alex Soroka (32-11); Tyler Hughes now posts a 41-3 record; while Kevin Dickenson improved his record to 26-16. C.B. Aycock is now 16-11 overall and finished 3-3 in conference.

Greenfield 85, Wayne Country Day 78

The Chargers dropped a tough, double overtime game against Greenfield. Tracy Whitfield scored 24 points, Marcus Metcalf dropped 17 points, Javon Outlaw finished with 14 points and Jaden Cooper added 13 points. The Chargers are 11-9 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

“This was a very well played game on both sides. My guys played very hard and I was very proud of their effort,” said Wayne Country Day head coach David Flowers. “If we will get better at executing at the end of the game we can be a tough team come playoffs.”

South Central 61, C.B. Aycock 39

Charles Walker’s 17-point effort was not enough as the Golden Falcons dropped a game against South Central.

Rosewood 52, Neuse Charter 37

Michael Reid scored 10 points, Tanner Capps added nine points and Logan Mitchell contributed eight points as the Eagles flew over Neuse Charter 52-37. Rosewood improves to 7-4 overall and is 5-0 in conference play.

North Duplin 54, Hobbton 36

Kijah Blow went off for 16 points as the Rebels took care of business against Hobbton. D.J. Simmons scored 10 points, Armone Anders scored nine points, Kyle Figueroa added seven points, while Christian Powell and Aaron Rose each scored six points.

Southern Wayne 54, D.H. Conley 53

Southern Wayne walked away with close, 54-53, win over D.H. Conley. Mikhail Pocknett led the Saints with 30 points, while Demetric Wright scored 16 points.

North Duplin (1-8 overall) won its first game of the season against Hobbton 26-22. Jamilyn Wallace led the Rebels with seven points, while Morgan McCoy was close behind with five points.

The Wayne Christian middle school boys loss 55-34 to Thales Academy. Josh Young led the way with 20 points. The Eagles next game will be Jan. 22 at Wayne Country Day. Tipoff is 4 p.m.
