Bess leads Saints over Rampants

Southern Wayne varsity girls’ basketball team defeated J.H. Rose 58-46 on Tuesday night. Samiya Bess had a game-high 22 points, seven rebound and three blocks. Erykah Baldwin added 13 points, while Alexus Elliott scored eight points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Ty’ Maye contributed eight points. Southern Wayne is now 8-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play. Southern Wayne hosts C.B. Aycock on Friday. Tipoff is 6:30 p.m.

Wayne Country Day 68, Friendship Christian 22

Wayne Country Day School traveled to Raleigh to take on Friendship Christian. The Chargers prevailed and came away with a 68-22 victory. Jala Holloman led the Chargers with 21 points, 10 steals and six assists, Katie Strickland was also a strong scorer with 14 points. Lexi Jeffreys contributed 12 points and Ja’kea Brunson added 10 points.
