Southern Wayne wins third straight
Southern Wayne won its third game in a row on Thursday night against J.H. Rose 10-2. Dawn Anderson got the win on the mound. She gave up only one earned run with five strikeouts. , the Saints, were led by freshman Allie Lane, who was 2-2 from the plate with a triple and two walks. Lane also scored three times. Junior Kelly Dail was 3-3 with two singles, a double, a sacrifice bunt, and a walk, while senior Kya Hunter reached base in all four of her at-bats. Hunter with hit two singles reached base on a walk and reached on an error. “She really helped spark the offense,” said Saints head coach Jame Williams. The Saints (5-2 overall, 2-1) next play C.B. Aycock on Tuesday.

East Carolina Conference 3-A/4-A meet (Eastern Wayne, D.H. Conley and New Bern)
Eastern Wayne placed first among the boys and girls teams during an Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference meet ran at D.H. Conley High School.
The Warriors earned first-place times and distances in 17 events. East Carolina Conference 3-A/4-A meet (C.B. Aycock, South Central J.H. Rose, Southern Wayne)
On Wednesday afternoon, Charles B Aycock High School competed in its first 3A/4A ECC Conference Track meet of the 2019 season hosted by South Central High School. South Central finished in first place, J.H. Rose came in second, Southern Wayne placed third, and C.B. Aycock finished fourth. The lady Golden Falcons made the following accomplishments: C.B. Aycock’s 4x400 relay team placed third with the following members: Kristen Ridgle, Kayla West, Audrey Dail, and Dasani Jackson. The Golden Falcons’ 4x100 relay team placed second with the following members: Denai Watkins, Audrey Dail, Emily Feddersen, and Dasani Jackson. Dasani Jackson placed fourth in the high jump event with a height of 4 ft 2 inches. Adrian Floars placed fifth in the D=discus event with a throw of 71 ft 7 inches, while Kayla West placed fifth in the 800 meters run with a time of 3:21.03.
Prep boys’ tennis
Wayne Country Day swept Oakwood 9-0 on Thursday afternoon. Sam Dively and Peter Ye both won 6-0, 6-0. Charlie Dees won his match 6-1, 6-4, while Cam Gerrard and Max Young both toppled their opponent 6-1, 6-1. Rounding out the singles, Michael Geer won 6-1, 6-2. In doubles play, Dively and Dees won 8-1, Young and Gerrard won 8-2, while Ye and Will Rose also won their match 8-1. The Chargers (3-0 overall) play Faith Christian on Monday.
Prep boys’ golf
Wayne Christian finished fifth in a golf meet played Sanford Country Club. Darden Bynum shot a 46, while Blake Easom finished with 51. Adam Grady also played well.
