In a thriller, Rosewood topples C.B. Aycock

Rosewood hosted C.B Aycock tonight for a nonconference game. As expected this was a close and exciting game with big hits and lots of runs. The Lady Eagle.s were able to survive a poor defensive performance by taking care of business on the offensive side of the ball. Rosewood committed 5 defensive errors but stayed strong at the plate by scoring 10 runs on 12 hits and two walks. Alyssa Smothers (1/4) had a solo home run, Mackenzie Amodeo went 2-4 with a double and a home run. Allecia Langdon was 2-3 with a home run, a single and three RBIs. RJ Myers was 2-4 with a single and a double. Brittney Butts was 2-4 with two singles. Senior pitcher Kaitlyn Kincaid went the distance in the circle allowing nine runs on nine hits, walking three and striking out two.

C.B. Aycock's Marie Kidd threw five and one-third innings giving up 11 hits while walking two and striking out six Rosewood batters. Shawna Williams came in in the sixth inning and gave up one hit and one walk. Offensive leaders for C.B. Aycock were Logan Medlin 2-4 with a double and home run and three RBIs. Emma Smith went 2/4 with two singles. Mikayla Williams was 1/4 a double and 4 RBIs.

Rosewood will travel to Wilmington on Wednesday to face a strong 4-A Laney team. Game time is 6 pm. The Lady Eagles will be back in action at home on Friday to face another strong 4-A school in Cardinal Gibbons High S. Game time 6 p.m. at The Nest in Rosewood.

The Warriors put a tough fight, but they were shutout against J.H. Rose.

“This is the best game we played all season ... If we can play like we did today against J.H. Rose the rest of the season, we will not lose any in county games.” Eastern Wayne head coach Anna Hajjar said.

The Chargers played with 10 players the entire game and battled to a 3-3 tie on Monday. The Chargers’ goals were scored by Hermione Clough, Kate Hunter and Martin Sharp.

Local Golf

The Red Tee winners for the week of Mar. 18-24 were Jeanette Sasser, who earned game-of-the-week honors, while Shelley Leder claimed low putts. Barbara Hill won low net.

Also at the March Eastern League tournament held at Brook Valley golf course in Greenville the following Lane Tree ladies were winners: second flight first low net Jeanette Sasser; second flight second low net Sherry Minner; third flight first low net Mary Ann Sutton; fourth flight low putts Eileen Henderson.
