Rosewood's Searles and Bedford compete in state championship
Rosewood High had two players in the NCHSAA state championship on Monday and Tuesday. Wyatt Searles shot a two day total of 165 to finish in 12th place, while Tyson Bedford finished with 214. Pinehurst No. 2 played very tough on Monday as 40 mph winds pushed against an extremely long course causing most players turned in higher than usual scores.
“These guys have worked hard and it payed off by allowing them to make it to the state championship and getting a chance to play at Pinehurst. I had a lot of fun coaching the Rosewood team. Most dedicated group I have ever had. Next year will be rebuilding as Tyson Bedford is the only returning player,” Rosewood head coach Rick Smith said.

Rosewood 7, East Carteret 6 (Tuesday)
Leading 5-2 going into the seventh inning, Rosewood gave up four runs that allowed East Carteret to take a 6-5 lead. However, in the bottom of the seventh inning, Tanner Capps drew a walk, Logan Merritt laid down a perfect bunt that turned into a single that moved Capps to third, while Merritt advanced to second base on the same play because no one from East Carteret was covering second base. Will Albert was then intentionally walked, and then Patrick Jones stepped into the batter’s box, and on a 0-1 count, Jones singled to left field and scored runs for the walk off win. Tanner McKeel pitched six and one-third innings, threw four strikeouts, gave up five runs and six hits. In two-third innings of relief, Logan Price struck out two batters. Rosewood advances to face John A. Holmes in the fourth round of the NCHSAA 1-A playoffs. First pitch is 6 p.m.
