MOUNT OLIVE — No. 11 University of Mount Olive Trojans defeated the Bulldogs of Wingate University 2-0 Wednesday afternoon at Scarborough Field in Mount Olive.

Mount Olive saw an offensive stalemate for most of the game until the Trojans got rolling in the sixth.

Blake McLean drew a lead-off walk to get the ball rolling for UMO.

Gunner Tolston then singled down the right-field line moving McLean to third with still no one away.

The bases became loaded after JT Stone was hit by a pitch and Nate Estes gave UMO the lead with an RBI-single back up the middle and Mount Olive took the 1-0 advantage.

The Trojans tried to score one more run but a fielder’s choice ended the inning as Wingate stepped on second to record the force out and end the sixth. Mount Olive added a second run in the seventh off a Wingate error and moved out 2-0.

Zack Burke came in to close out the game for UMO and the Trojans took the second game of the series.

Mason Medlin (1-0) was credited with the win in relief going two-thirds of an inning and struck out one. Zack Burke (1) picked up the save pitching the final three innings surrendering one hit and struck out five Bulldogs.
