RALEIGH — No. 20 NC State baseball opened its series against Radford on Friday evening at Doak Field at Dail Park with a 6-3 win. On Saturday, the Wolfpack powered past Radford with nine runs on 11 hits and clinched the weekend series with a 9-3 win.
After facing a deficit for the 18th time this season, the Wolfpack scored all of its runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings to win its first series since April 6 (2-1 series win at Boston College).
In the series finale, NC State earned a 6-3 win, and completed its fourth sweep of the season and first since March 22-24 at Miami. The Wolfpack took a 3-0 lead in the first two innings, but the Highlanders managed to knot the score in the fourth.
With a sacrifice fly in the fifth and back-to-back RBI singles in the seventh to secure the victory, the Pack extends its win streak to four and improves to 37-12 overall. The Highlanders fall to 23-24 on the year.
CINCINNATI, Ohio — Eighth-ranked ECU won its sixth American Athletic Conference series following a road doubleheader sweep at Cincinnati (9-4, 6-3) Friday at Marge Schott Stadium.
The twin-bill sweep is the fifth for the Pirates this season as they moved to 10-2 in doubleheader contests in 2019.
After winning the first contest, ECU earned win No. 15 in league play 6-3 Friday night.
In the series finale, Tyler Smith struck out a career-high eight batters, while Spencer Brickhouse and Alec Burleson each collected three hits helping No. 8 ECU to an American Athletic Conference series sweep at Cincinnati, 6-2, Sunday afternoon in Marge Schott Stadium.
With the win, the Pirates improve to 36-11 overall and 16-2 in league play, while the Bearcats drop to 22-25 and 11-10.
