Wayne County United Soccer Club Academy U9 team recently won the Wrangler/McDonald’s 40th Soccer Tournament in Greensboro.
United played four hard-fought games and finished the tournament with a perfect 4-0 record. United scored 13 goals and allowed just five goals.
The Wrangler/McDonald’s Tournament annually features approximately 300 plus teams from North Carolina and the surrounding states. Wayne United’s final game ended in a tie with the game being decided by a penalty kick shootout.
Andrew Zuniga blocked the final shot to secure the championship for United. Academy Champions: Nathan, Warner, Kolten (Butter), Kohlton G, Morgan, Harrison, Daniel, Andrew, Bryce, Ty and Brayden.
Coached by Scott Summers, Ryan Grubb and Noe Davalos, earlier in the year United won the Bojangles Beast of the East Tournament in Greenville.
Currently, United is 8-0 in tournament play.
“This is a very special group of boys, and they represent the club very well. I look forward to the future watching this young talented group continue to love the game and keep the memories coming,” United head coach Scott Summers said.
