A new Burlington store will breathe life into the former Sears department store at the Berkeley Mall in the fall.
A date for the planned opening has not been announced but company officials are gearing up to hire 65 to 75 full and part time employees, said Jenn Glassey, Burlington Stores spokesperson.
“We are thrilled to bring Burlington’s low prices on a wide assortment of brand name merchandise for the entire family and home to the Goldsboro community,” Glassey said.
“The new store will open in fall 2023, bringing the number of total locations in the state of North Carolina to 27.”
The discount clothing chain, previously known as the Burlington Coat Factory, will open inside the former Sears building, at 703 N. Berkeley Blvd., Glassey said.
The building has been vacant since Sears closed its doors in November 2018, after the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and decided to close 142 unprofitable stores.
The Berkeley Mall anchor site offers 74,000 square feet of space for Burlington’s wide range of products that will include clothing for men, women and children, shoes, a baby section, home decor and pet care items and toys, she said.
“With amazingly low prices, up to 60% off other retailers prices every day, on brand name merchandise arriving regularly, customers will discover something new every time they shop at Burlington,” Glassey said. “We offer fantastic bargains on the items they want and need for the entire family and the home.”
Burlington has 20 locations in North Carolina, including stores in Greenville, Jacksonville, Fayetteville, Rocky Mount, Garner and Raleigh.
